From Personal Struggle to Public Service
Shawna's decision to run for office is deeply personal.
"As many of you know, my daughter battled cancer when she was 17. I know the exhaustion of fighting for your child's life, and it's not something I take for granted. That experience changed me forever."
During that difficult time, Shawna made a promise to herself: if her daughter survived, she would dedicate herself to helping improve the systems that families depend on during their most challenging moments.
That promise inspired her to seek public office and fight for working families throughout Wisconsin.
Why Is Shawna Running?
Shawna sees the challenges facing everyday Wisconsinites every day.
"Rural hospitals are struggling or closing. Health care costs continue to rise. Schools are underfunded. Families are paying more for everyday necessities while large corporations continue to post record profits."
She believes the people of rural Outagamie and Waupaca Counties deserve a representative who understands their struggles because she has lived them herself.
Her commitment to public service was strengthened when she watched the New London community come together during a record-breaking flood.
"That experience reminded me that we're all just neighbors trying to make the best of what we're given. When we work together, there's nothing our communities can't overcome."
A Voice for Everyone in the 56th
Shawna wants every person in the district to know that she will work for them. She believes representation means showing up, listening, and being accessible to the people she serves. As a working-class candidate, she brings a perspective that is too often missing from state government. She is more than a candidate.
She is a neighbor, a mother, a factory worker, and a proud Wisconsinite who is ready to serve her community.
